No One Talks to the Young Men

Our Life Skills trainer was invited to the logistics university in the city to teach about crisis pregnancy and suicide to around 350 first year students and 6 teachers. Many of the young men in the audience were known to use drugs and other substances.

Some of the teachers weren’t happy about our life skills trainer teaching about pregnancy to the men, so she explained the importance of the topic and that crisis pregnancy does not affect only the young women but also the young men!

During the lesson the young men were given tiny, rubber fetus dolls to touch. Most of the young men were amazed.

“I had goosebumps when I saw the doll,” one of the young men said.

Another commented that no one talks to the young men about sexual education, and this was enlightening for them.

After the lesson the lecturer who was responsible for inviting speakers to the university commented that it was the first time in 20 years that she heard someone teaching these topics in the local language.

These seminars aim to grow the capacity of young people to cope with these difficulties and empower their immediate networks to offer the necessary support. Our hope is that through these lessons young people will be equipped to make wise, healthy choices for their lives and in turn influence their communities.
