Located in the Middle East, Jordan is rich in culture and history. In comparison to the surrounding countries, Jordan is a haven of rest and peace, a tribute to the nature of the Jordanian people and strong governance. In recent years Jordan has received more than 600.000 refugees from Syria and Iraq.

Operation Mercy works among rural Jordanians and vulnerable groups of people living in urban areas. Our work with Jordanians includes improving the quality of life for children with disabilities and their inclusion into society. Keystone is a fitness and wellness program for unemployed and vulnerable men. It includes teaching about health, stress, family issues etc. For small-hold farmers, we conduct trials and demonstrations of agricultural practices addressing some of the most serious challenges they face. The vegetables produced on the farm are shipped to our local partners, who distribute the vegetables to vulnerable families.

Jordan is a land of beauty and contrasts. It covers the fertile Jordan Valley, rugged mountains, evergreen woodlands, scrubby steppe and the remote desert canyons.

Jordan borders Syria, Saudi Arabia, the Red Sea, Palestine, Israel, and Iraq with a current population close to 10 million people. Jordan stands at the cross road of the Middle East connecting Asia, Africa and Europe. The area has played an important role as a conduit for trade and communications, connecting east and west, north and south and continues to do so today.

The two largest people groups are the Jordanian Bedouins and the Palestinians. Over time, Jordan has taken in a remarkable number of refugees without the country being destabilized.
