In our Operation Mercy Community Health clinics in Jordan, we screen patients who need diagnostic tests and specialist follow up.
Mustafa*, a refugee, came to our clinic complaining of shortness of breath. His blood pressure was elevated and during the consultation one of our volunteer physicians decided to refer him to a cardiologist for more detailed tests.
We supported this referral to a cardiologist, who carried out tests and booked Mustafa for catheterization surgery. Our Community Health project was able to cover the cost for this.
During surgery it was discovered that Mustafa’s life would be at risk if he didn’t have additional surgery to put a stent in one of his arteries. While we were not able to afford paying for the stent, we were able to network with another organization whose team of cardiologists performed the surgery.
Mustafa is now able to leave the house and walk without discomfort and he has vastly more energy to spend with his latest grandchild who was born recently.
