As our life skills team in Kazakhstan worked with several colleges, we began hearing a common concern from young teachers. Many were experiencing high levels of stress, emotional exhaustion, and self-doubt as they navigated the demands of teaching. For those still building their professional experience, managing classroom relationships, responding to student needs, and balancing heavy workloads often felt overwhelming. Some teachers shared that they frequently felt frustrated and drained. A few even questioned whether they could continue in the profession.
Despite their important role in supporting students’ emotional well-being, teachers themselves rarely had opportunities to reflect on their own needs or receive emotional support. The strain was not only affecting their personal well-being but also influencing their interactions with students and the overall classroom environment.
In response, our team provided a series of art therapy and psychological well-being workshops designed specifically for teachers. These workshops created a safe and supportive environment where teachers could step away from their daily responsibilities and focus on their own well-being. They encouraged teachers to acknowledge their challenges while equipping them with practical tools to manage stress and respond to difficult situations more effectively.
The workshops led to meaningful changes in both attitude and behavior among participants. Many teachers reported a greater understanding of their emotional well-being and how stress was influencing their teaching, relationships, and daily decision-making. They began to recognize that taking care of themselves was not a sign of weakness or selfishness, but an essential part of being an effective educator. Participants shared that they felt more confident managing difficult classroom situations and more patient when interacting with students. Several teachers noted that they had started applying stress-management techniques and communication strategies learned during the sessions.
This experience taught us an important lesson: investing in teachers is also an investment in students. By strengthening the well-being of educators, we help create classrooms where young people feel supported, understood, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
