For many families, healthy eating can feel out of reach due to limited income, lack of information, or the belief that nutritious food is expensive. Through our Healthy Nutrition Seminar, we are helping change that perception by equipping women with practical knowledge and affordable solutions to improve their families' health.
The programme, which will run until November 2026, brings together 14 women from large families and vulnerable backgrounds. Many participants have had limited access to education, so our approach focuses on providing information in simple, practical, and easy-to-understand ways.
During each session, participants learn about the importance of healthy nutrition, disease prevention, and building lifelong healthy habits. We discuss affordable sources of protein, including eggs, beans, lentils, dairy products, and nuts grown in their own yards. We also explore healthy carbohydrates and healthy fats, showing that nutritious meals do not have to be expensive.
Learning goes beyond theory. As part of each seminar, participants take part in a hands-on cooking masterclass where they prepare a healthy meal together and share it as a group. Afterwards, they receive budget-friendly recipes to try at home. Many of the women enthusiastically prepare these meals for their children and send photos of their creations through WhatsApp, allowing us to celebrate their progress and encourage one another.
The response from participants has been overwhelmingly positive.
"We had never heard about these things before," several women shared. "Doctors usually prescribe medicine when we get sick, but no one explains how to stay healthy or build a healthy lifestyle."
Already, we are seeing meaningful changes in the lives of these families.
Many participants have reduced their consumption of sugar and other simple carbohydrates. They are incorporating more vegetables and fresh greens into their meals, often harvesting produce directly from their home gardens. The women have also recognised the importance of physical activity and have begun taking evening walks with their children. Mothers report that these walks not only improve family health but also reduce the amount of time their younger children spend using electronic devices.
By providing practical knowledge, ongoing encouragement, and affordable solutions, we are helping mothers gain the confidence to make choices that support their own well-being and the well-being of their children.
