“Seventy members of my family were slaughtered by ISIS, but I have learned that to truly overcome their hatred, I must surrender my pain to God and choose to forgive. Love and forgiveness are the only way forward.”

Time and time again Iraq has made negative headlines with stories of wars and atrocities committed, most recently with the rise and fall of ISIS. As Operation Mercy Iraq we want to see the people of Iraq and those that have sought refuge here make positive headlines! Through our staff and our programming for women and children, people with disabilities and their families, as well as other emerging needs; we seek to support a culture that gives birth to hope, love, and forgiveness. We want to see relationships restored and people living up to their potential and transforming their country!

From its beginnings in 1991, Operation Mercy has invested in the people of Iraq, a tumultuous land devastated by war. After the Gulf War, thousands of Kurds were fleeing Sadaam Hussein’s forces and were stuck in the cold mountains between Turkey and Iraq. Operation Mercy brought blankets and life-saving supplies. Again, in 2003 amid the chaos after the fall of Sadaam Hussein, Operation Mercy showed up in Baghdad to help with emergency relief and rebuilding initiatives.

Unfortunately, the rise of ISIS in 2014, once again brought another disaster on the people of Iraq. Along with you, Operation Mercy is responding to the crisis of 3.2 million Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) as well as 210,000 Syrian refugees. Join us in continuing to bring the light of hope to see communities in Iraq transformed physically, emotionally, spiritually, and relationally.

“Before ISIS I was a very wealthy, prideful man who didn’t have time for my family. [When ISIS came] I lost my company, my home, and everything I own. My family fled for our lives. But now a poor man, I realize how valuable my family is and that I need to choose to love my wife and children by serving them and spending time with them. I lost all I owned but gained so much more.”
